Socceroos at Home: A-League Men’s 2022/23 Round 9 Preview

Isuzu UTE A-League action continues for the Australian-based Socceroos over the festive season with Round 9 getting underway on Friday night.

The trio of Socceroos at each of Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners will face off at AAMI Park on Tuesday night while Andrew Redmayne and Craig Goodwin are also set to feature over the long weekend for Sydney FC & Adelaide United respectively.

Adam Taggart will have to wait another week until the January transfer window opens before taking the pitch for his new club Perth Glory.

Sydney FC vs Macarthur FC

Andrew Redmayne’s Sydney FC aim to return to winning ways when they host Macarthur at Allianz Stadium on Christmas Eve.

The Sky Blues bagged their first win at their new home ground with a 2-1 victory over Melbourne City in their first match back after the FIFA World Cup break before suffering defeat on the road to the Mariners last weekend.

Redmayne is expected to start between the posts for Sydney who start the round in ninth position on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder.

Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners

Six Socceroos are set to battle it out on Tuesday evening at AAMI Park when Jamie MaclarenMathew Leckie and Marco Tilio’s Melbourne City face a Central Coast side containing Danny VukovicJason Cummings and Garang Kuol.

The Mariners come into Tuesday’s match off the back of an impressive 3-0 victory in the F3 derby over Newcastle Jets that included a superb strike from Jason Cummings.

Cummings strike, which was his fourth of the season sends him level with fellow Socceroo Craig Goodwin in third position on the competition's top scorers charts.

City’s Jamie Maclaren remains the league’s most lethal marksman with nine goals to his name so far this season.

Just three points separate league leaders City and third placed Central Coast coming into Tuesday’s clash.

Adelaide United vs Newcastle Jets

Craig Goodwin is set to play his first match back at Coopers Stadium following the FIFA World Cup break when Adelaide United play host to Newcastle Jets on Tuesday night.

Goodwin marked his return to Isuzu UTE A-League action with a sublime free-kick as United suffered defeat at the hands of Wellington Phoenix last weekend.

The Socceroos wide man now has four goals and five assists to his name for the Reds, who sit fourth at the beginning of the round.
